College Recruiting Athlete Profile

College Recruiting

I had a great talk yesterday with the mother of a basketball player in Jacksonville, Florida who is considering our services for college recruiting.  We talked about the recruiting process and how confusing it can be.  When I explained to her how easy and inexpensive it was, she was excited and surprised how easy and affordable it can be to have a athlete profile website and market  her son.  It also reminded me that now would be a good time to write  a quick article on how inexpensive recruiting can be if you do it right.

So, here’s the cost and the process for marketing yourself to college coaches with our athlete profile.Slide___eight__

John – What You Should Include in Your Athlete Profile

The Athlete Profile

Preparing to be recruited by college coaches is a very important task.  It is extremely important to you include enough information for a college coach to become interested and then ask you to take the next step – a college visit.

So, we will talk about what you need to include in your athlete profile in this article.

The Basics

  • Profile picture
  • Name
  • Address
  • Telephone number
  • High School
  • Height
  • Weight

Academic Achievements

  • GPA
  • Class Rank

Extracurricular Activities

Include any other activities that you are participating in including:

  • Student Government
  • National Honor Society
  • Your Church
  • Other Community Involvement

Your Story

I highly recommend that you write a brief but informational life story about yourself.  The story should be about you as an athlete, a student and an individual.  Write what sets you apart in all three areas.  Write confidently but not selfishly.  Remember, you are a team player but it is important to tell the story of how hard you have worked and applied yourself

Include multiple pictures of yourself in action and making great plays.  Find those photos that show off your physical abilities

This is hugely important – maybe the most important thing when it comes to recruiting.  Put together a 3 – 4 minute video of your accomplishments athletically so a coach can see you at “game speed.”  We can help you or there are many other options.  Or, you can do it yourself.  We have a whole article dedicated to the subject by clicking here:

Also a big deal.  Get your references lined up and committed to help you.  And, make sure these are people who are going to be recognized by a college coach.  Your high school coaches, teachers, summer coaches, etc. are excellent references to pull together.  Of course, if you know an alumni from the school you are interested, another great source of support.

Contact Information

Make it easy for coaches to get in touch with you.  We have a contact page on our websites which make it very easy for a coach to get in touch.

As always, we are here to help.  Take a tour of some of our athlete profiles so you can see some of the great work our prospects have done to showcase themselves.

The Online Athlete Profile Versus the Traditional Athlete Profile

When we first starting thinking about college recruiting for my oldest son, one of the options was the traditional athlete profile.  This was essentially a one page resume that had his photo, accomplishments both on and off the field, community, etc.  A great idea.

So, we thought about it and we asked more questions.  And, what we found was surprising.

  1. Athlete profiles cost a lot of money.  We heard of prices ranging from $1oo to $300 and more.
  2. The profile is just the beginning of your expense.  Once you have your profile, the next thing you need is a DVD of your accomplishments on the field.  Add another $200 to 300.  That is just to produce the video and does not include the expense of making copies for the numerous letters that you would need to send out.  Add at least another $100
  3. Cost to mail the DVD’s and your athlete profile can reach $1 to $2 for each mailing.  If you market yourself to 100 schools that is another $100 to 200.

So, all told we could easily rack up nearly $1000 in expenses to market to college coaches.

That was enough for us to pursue another path – the online athlete profile.  We built a website for my son, included all of the traditional information and made our own videos and placed them on the site by linking to youtube.

The cost to do this is $5 per month through  That’s right, we took my son’s website, made it better and are now offering this service to all high school athletes, any sport, for just $5 per month.

We will show you where to find all of the college coaches online for $30 per year.

So, the new total to market yourself to college coaches is under $100 versus $1000 for a traditional athlete profile.

Give our service a try. If you are not completely satisfied, we will give you your money back – no questions asked.  Visit today.  Learn why more and more athletes are choosing to market themselves to college coaches with our online athlete profile.

The Athlete Profile – When Does College Recruiting Start

I have written on college recruitingc before but thought it would be a good idea to do it again.  One of the questions I get often is when to start preparing your athlete for college recruiting.  My answer is the sooner the better.  Not that you are necessarily going to send their athlete profile to college coaches when they are in seventh grade, but you should start documenting their career through photos, videos, news stories, etc. right now.  Then, when they reach high school, you can begin the marketing process and get your athlete noticed!

We have designed our online athlete profile to be very user friendly and affordable – just $5 per month. This is just about what you would pay to host a website and we include a professionally designed website for that low price.  You will be able to keep track of stats, upload pictures, upload videos from youtube and much much more.

A Breakthrough in College Recruiting

We just completed testing on our new All Sport website and are launching it today.  We have incorporated all of the style and color options into one site and are giving control to the user to select any theme and color option with the click of a mouse.

And, at the request of our customers, we designed functionality into the site which will give the user the ability to create their own stats and categories.  This gives them full control over which stats they want to highlight to college coaches.

These new enhancements allow for the multi-sport athlete to showcase all of their accomplishments on one site versus maintaining several sites.

We are very excited to bring this to our current athletes and look forward to bringing more athletes into the family.

The College Recruiting Process for High School Athletes

The college recruiting process is one of the most exciting times in a high school athlete’s life.  It is the time when all you have done to maximize your potential as a high school athlete intersects with the search process the colleges put in place to find athletes to make their teams better.

So, how do you get noticed?  Here are a few simple steps.PS_Logo_smtrans

  1. Produce a 3 – 4 minute highlight video of your accomplishments.  This does not require expensive camera equipment to get the job done.  Our athletes have been filmed with hand held cameras, cell phones and digital cameras which also record video.  Then all you need is video editing software like Power Director.  Once you create your video, upload it to youtube.
  2. Gather all your stats into a single document.  Stats are important and they demonstrate how you perform and importantly if you have improved over time.
  3. Get letters of recommendation.  These letters should be from coaches, teachers and other leaders in your life and should not only highlight your performance but your character and how you contribute to your community.
  4. Gather all of the articles that have been written about you.  These articles can go a long way toward telling your story to a college coach.  There is nothing better than being verified by a third party.
  5. Get your transcript.  Your grades are as important as your athletic ability ~ maybe more so.  Or, at a minimum, your grades can help a coach decide to select you over your competitor – assuming your athletic skills are comparable.

Now, that you have all of this ~ what do you do?
Build your online resume.  That is right – online.  We believe that developing a paper resume is yesterday’s answer to today’s recruiting challenge.  If you are submitting a typed profile through the mail you are getting lapped by your competition.

And that is where we come in.

You can upload all of the content just mentioned into your very own website and give coaches a link to your full story – online.

Out with the old and in with the new!  Get a athlete website today and learn how to market yourself to college coaches and be recruited.

Playing College Sports Begins Your Freshman Year in High School

I am on a plane from Portland, Oregon to Detroit and thinking about what I could say this week which would be impactful for young athletes who are interested in playing college sports. And, then I was reminded about a talk I gave a couple of weeks ago…..

I was asked by a friend of mine, Dan Tanto, to speak to his 14U baseball team about playing at the next level. Dan’s team is the Northmont Storm based out of Dayton, Ohio.

Dan is an excellent coach and a man of Faith. So, those boys are getting great coaching on two fronts.

Of course, I wanted to share with the boys and their parents. And, we did. But what we did which was far more important was to talk to them about the kind of young men that they needed to become and how that would help their chances of playing at the next level.

I am attaching the presentation from that meeting in the hopes that it will be of benefit to anyone reading this post. Because, as we all know, the key to marketing is to have a great product to begin with. And, that is what we impressed on these young men. And, while great athletic skills will take them far, they will go much farther with those skills and great character. Leadership, never quitting, team player, etc.

I would be happy to conduct a webinar for your team if that would be of benefit. There is no charge. If you are interested, please send me an email to

Have a great weekend!

Here is the presentation.    ProspectSites Overview – Website – How to Market to College Coaches

Market to College Coaches

One of the most exciting times in a high school athlete’s life is when they begin to believe that they may be able to play college athletics.

For the most gifted athletes, college coaches will find them.  For the next tier athlete, it is likely going to be up to them to get exposure to college coaches.

I started because my oldest son was a great high school catcher that wasn’t getting any exposure to colleges in the area.  As a marketing professional with over 25 years experience in marketing, I believed we could change that……..- and we did.  Here is how:

First, we set out to develop a website that would showcase his talents – personally, academically and athletically.  Here is his site:

Secondly, the most important thing coaches want to see is live video.  Fortunately, we spent a lot of time documenting his career and so the video piece was already there.

Next, I bought software from PowerDirector (Version 10 is now available) and consolidated his videos into 2 to 3 minute segments that a potential college coach could view quickly and then see if they were interested.

Then, we uploaded his videos to his site so that we would be ready for college coaches to visit his site.

Next step was to purchase an online subscription to  We were able to put together a list of potential coaches including their email addresses.

With the list put together, we then developed a simple email linking them to Mike’s site and then we waited.  But, not for long!  In some cases, he was contacted the next day!  It was really an exciting time.

From there, we simply lined up the college visits, met with the administration staff, the coaching staff, met other student athletes and toured the colleges.  It was an amazing experience that we will never forget.  And, here is something you should know.  Because of Mike’s ACT score and his GPA, one of the schools offered him $11,000 in scholarship money!  All because we invested a little money in developing his site, his story and then marketed him to college coaches.

You will notice that we did this ourselves – and so can you.  The financial return on your investment by using a website could be huge.  Our sites are only $5 per month.  You cannot develop a site like these for that and why would you?  We have already done the work.

Join the team and we will get started on marketing you to college coaches to answer the question of whether or not you can play at the next level.

As always, please let us know if you have any questions.

Happy New Year!
